Understanding How Our Hook Works
Kids need a place to put their coat or backpack when they’re in the washroom or in a classroom. Rigid coat hooks have no system to release if a child gets caught on the hook. Children have been seriously injured from coat hooks. Over the years, schools responded by taking out coat hooks, which didn’t resolve the issue and left students wondering what to do with their backpacks, coats, and other gear.
The HenkelHook™ was designed to automatically release when it detects more weight than a normal backpack. If a child is playing around or being bullied, our coat hook releases so the child isn’t injured. Then, the hook resets itself to be used as intended. It’s a safer option to a rigid coat hook.

Safety Features
Too many deaths have occurred from rigid coat hooks. It was a 1998 tragedy that inspired the HenkelHook™ A Chatham, Ontario student died after being suspended on a rigid coat hook. Similar incidents have occurred in other schools in the United States and Canada. Many schools responded by removing the rigid coat hooks, but now students had nowhere to place their belongings in the washroom, causing hygiene issues.
Our coat hook meets the need for schools and other facilities as a strong, tamperproof hook that releases automatically. It is designed to be affordable for schools but made of a very durable polycarbonate that resists impact. It can be easily installed in any location, and it comes in a wide range of colors to match different décor. Other hooks designed to be safer cost up to several times the cost of the HenkelHook™.
Our hook promotes safety while offering a hygienic environment anywhere it is installed. It is designed to hold up about 26 pounds (11.8 kg). When more weight is placed on the hook, the hook automatically releases. Whatever is on the hook falls off, then the hook resets. Our hook uses magnets as part of its release system, ensuring that it will work every time. It’s a preventative measure that protects children.
